U.S. Poised to Become Epicenter; India on Lockdown

As days continue to pass, and countries continue to toughen their containment efforts with strict stay at home policy, the euro zone economy is sinking now more then aver. Plus, the fact that the U.S. could become the next hub of the outbreak as the World Health Organization (WHO) warned. Stocks rallied as Congress neared a deal on a stimulus bill.

Also, India has joined the group of countries imposing a national lockdown. This time, it will have an extent of three weeks to help contain the spread of the coronavirus infections. It has also suspended train, flight and long-distance bus services.

La líder de Hong Kong dice que el diálogo y el “respeto mutuo” ofrecen una salida del caos

Carrie Lan, líder de Hong Kong anuncio este martes que espera un fin de semana pacifico con protestas anti gobierno como un esfuerzo creciente para recuperar la calma y que charlas con protestantes no violentos pueden proveer una salida para la ciudad gobernada por China

Cientos de miles de personas se reunieron en las calles este domingo, bajo una torrencial lluvia en lo que viene a ser la onceava semana de a menudo violentas protestas.

Todo este enojo comenzó en junio cuando un proyecto de ley ahora suspendido, permitiría extraditar a sospechosos criminales de la antigua colonia Británica hacia la China continental para su juicio.

Estos disturbios han sido alimentados por otras preocupaciones mas amplias en base a la erosión de libertades garantizadas en la formula “un país, dos sistemas” la cual fue establecida después del regreso de Hong Kong a China en 1997.

Estas protestas han provocado fuertes reacciones por parte de Beijing, quien acuso a países extranjeros, entre ellos Estados Unidos, de fomentar disturbios en el territorio. Así mismo, China ha enviado una advertencia clara de la posible intervención contundente, manteniendo fuerzas paramilitares realizando simulacros en la vecina Shenzhen.

Twitter Inc y Facebook Inc mencionaron este lunes que habían desmantelado una campaña de redes sociales respaldada por el estado, con el objetivo de socavar las protestas en Hong Kong.

Las protestas están afectando la economía y turismo de la ciudad, con el centro financiero asiático al borde de su primera recesión en diez años.

China readies response to Tariffs, Resists Hong Kong Advice

China called looming U.S. tariffs as a violation to the accords made between presidents Trump and Xi Jinping, vowing also retaliation as Beijing also pushed back on Trump´s effort to link trade war to the recent turmoil in Hong Kong.

The plans for a 10% tariff on more then USD 300 billion in Chinese imports have taken U.S. and China further away from resolving their dispute through negotiation.

A foreign affair ministry spokeswoman expressed hope that the U.S. would leave Hong Kong as an internal matter for the Chinese government to deal with. Trump said that an agreement with China has to be “on our terms” according to Fox News.

Trump also announced the tariffs set for September 1 and December 15. China has also halted the purchases of agricultural goods allowing the yuan to weaken even more.

In China´s statements, indicates that Beijing doesn’t think the U.S. delaying some tariffs is enough, said Zhou Xiaoming, former ministry of Commerce. China is sticking to the position that no new duties should be imposed, adding that China´s retaliation “may not be limited to tariffs”.

Hong Kong airport grinds to halt; China likens protest to terrorism

Hong Kong airport halted several flights on Monday august 12, blaming the demonstrators for the interruption. Meanwhile, China said that the Anti-government protests which have been sweeping the city over two weeks, have begun to show “sprouts of terrorism”.

Airport authorities have been working alongside airlines so they can resume flights as late as 6 am on Tuesday, but given the recent developments, the odds of resuming flights have decreased minute by minute.

According to legal expert’s form Hong Kong, the official descriptions of the protesters actions as proofs of terrorism could lead the government to the use of powerful anti-terrorist laws and powers against them.

Hong Kongers have responded by taking the city streets one more time, hundreds attacked a police station while singing hymns, also de returned to a metro station in which the police had hit activists with batons for protesting.

Estas manifestaciones cada vez más violentas han ido sumando territorio gobernado por China en su crisis más grave en décadas, presentando así uno de los más grandes desafíos para Xi Jinping desde que llego al poder en el 2012.

This more and more violent demonstrations have plunged the Chinese-ruled territory into its most serious crisis for decades. Presenting the biggest challenge Xi Jinping has had since he came to power on 2012.

Al lot this started as an opposition to a bill which allowed extradition to the mainland for trial in Communist-controlled courts. But as time has passed, there has been more chance to highlight other grievances, wining broader support. At the end, approximately 190 flights were affected and several airlines announce they would be canceling flights among Malaysia and Hong Kong until mid-Tuesday.
